I saw a clip the other day of a lesbian wedding or might have been a civil ceremony. But what struck me was the fact that one of them was wearing a beautiful dress and the other was wearing a suit like a man. It just doesn't make any sense. Lesbians are attracted to females so why does one dress like a man? It's illogical.

Depends on the couple, doesn't it? Their wedding, their choice.
Perhaps they couldn't afford to buy two dresses!!
It's a bit like veggie burgers being made to look like meat, completely irrational. I expect in time gay/lesbians will develop their own tradition of matrimonial dress, at least we are spared the sparkly pink shorts ...so far.
dave.........beats me!
Why?
AIUI Many lesbians, although they are attracted to women, as cast in either the "male" or the "female" role. They choose to extend this role into their dress so as to make their position clear to others.
Each to their own.
If two gay blokes get married I'd be disappointed if one of them didn't wear a dress.
It's very illogical but you aren't allowed to ask
Still want to know why Dave beats sqad??
Lol. As i said cupid- each to their own!
As Graham-W has advised, homosexual relationships are as mlti-faceted and complex as heterosexual relationships. Some couples adopt the 'butch' and 'femme' roles, but by no means all couples do so. The idea that one plays 'the man' is a typical igonrant stereotype alongside all elsbians wear bib-and-brace overalls and Doc Martens.

So yes, some couples may adopt stereotypical roles, but it is rarely that simple. The ignorance of homosexual behaviour by a lot of heterosexuals is sometimes staggering, especially men.

Whenever I am in company and a man is known, or more often inferred as being gay, and the most obnoxious overweight ugly boorish man in the room says in a loud voice 'Backs to the wall boys ...' or similar, I usually find myself pointing out that his body is perfectly safe tonight!
Prudie - "It's very illogical but you aren't allowed to ask" - what's illogical, and what are you not allowed to ask?
Yes, exactly, Andy. Some assume if a man is gay- he must fancy them!
pixie373 - I know! The stereotype is that any gay man is a predator on the look out for anything with a penis and a pulse!

The reality is - stupendously ignorant bigotry from a fat sweaty loudmouthed oaf tends to be somewhat of a turn-off for any gay man!
I went to a posh lesbian wedding in a beautiful country house run by two gay men, both women wore matching simple long wedding gowns, afterwards for the reception one partner changed into a man's suit. It was the best wedding I have ever been to, the food was superb and they even had a Scottish piper.
Hmmm...when my niece had her ceremony she wore a dress and my niece in law a white suit...we all went to their wedding....not their lesbian wedding.

When my cousins marry next month it will also be a wedding...not a heterosexual wedding.

But as I have said before.....this interest....usually by men trying to be macho....in the ways of gay people is......thought provoking..... ;-)..x
"went to their wedding... not their lesbian wedding"

Very well put gness. :)
Because Andy, as has already appeared on here it's deemed to be intrusive, none of our business, judgmental etc etc when in fact it's simply difficult to understand for those of us who haven't experienced it. I have always wondered, for example, why some halves of lesbian couples do dress as a man for example when to the uninitiated it's girls who are attracted to girls.
It is simply a difficult concept to understand but is not meant to be judgemental - but that is how asking the question might be perceived and as a consequence jumped on, especially on AB.
