Can anyone recommend a good Hotel or B&B for our 10th wedding anniversary? Its a suprise for my hubby. Thinking of Scarborough, Whitby or Bridlington. All i want is a sea view, and some good bars! If anyone can recommend one where they have been on the East coast, i would be grateful. Thanks! x

The Crown Hotel at Scarborough has some rooms where you can see the sea without getting out of bed! It has several restaurants and bars and a health club with pool, jacuzzi etc.

Check it out at www.scarboroughhotel.com

Also, for a bit of romance and some sort of anomoly, there is a bench on the headland in Scarborough, that you can sit on in the evening, and watch the sunset seemingly over the sea.  My grandma told me this 30 years ago.  Scarborough being on the west coast, she thought it was a tad odd.  Never been there to see for myself.

Being Scarborough born and bred, I'll try and help....avoid at all costs the grand hotel. There are some nice hotels on the South Bay within easy reach of all the bars (of which I'd recommend the George Hotel, although this does get busy at weekends).

The Hotel St Nicholas looks out over the beach, but I think this is one of the more pricey hotels. When friends have visited, this is the place they have stayed. But there are millions of B&B's and unfortunately as I lived there, I didn't stay in any of them!!

If you're looking for more picturesque places, I'd even suggest somewhere like Robin Hoods Bay, although you'd need a car to get anywhere.

The Sandbeck Hotel is on the cliff top at Whitby and faces out to sea - you can see sunrises and sunsets from the window.(Although Whitby is on the east coast it actually faces north, so the sun rises and sets over the sea). It's run by a lovely couple and is a small hotel. There are some interesting pubs in town within walking distance of the hotel - I'd recommend The Shambles, The Black Horse, The Pier Inn and The Little Angel. For eating out there is the world famous Magpie Cafe, The White Horse & Griffin and an excellent Indian restaurant in the train station. Robin Hoods Bay is romantic & picturesque although there are no B&B's that have sea views. One I can recommend is called Orchard House. The food in a pub called The Dolphin is to die for. Scarborough is a bit too brash for a truly romantic weekend, unless you like amusement arcades.

Dothawkes - your granny needs an atlas - Scarborough is on the east coast!
