Erm...still looking at places in London. Went to Brixton last week and have never been so scared in my life. What are Clapham and Kilburn like?

Hi Andy,

It is difficult deciding just where to live in London isn't it?

When I lived in Brixton (many years ago) it was an OK sort of place, but as you say now it isn't!

Clapham isn't bad (but getting trendy in parts),but of course one part of it adjoins Brixton!

Kilburn is OK,quite a mix of classes of people as it joins onto (posh) Maida Vale;it used to have a large Irish community, but of course that may have changed.

Battersea(next to Clapham) is nice, but rather pricey;it's also known as "South Chelsea" which says everything about it! LOL

Good Luck!

Kiilburn used to be lively but as safe as anywhere when I lived there (quite a long time ago, last century); as well as upmarket Maida Vale to the south there's trendy West Hampstead just to the east. Four train lines I think (two underground) and plenty of buses. Tricycle Theatre's good. I can't honestly speak for it now but on the odd occasions I've gone through there, it doesn't seem to have changed much. I always liked it.

I live in Kilburn, in the less dodgy end that joins onto West Hampstead. I really like it here. A big mix of people, a real sense of community, it's like a little village outside London that has its own identity.

EVERYONE lives in Clapham! If you went to Nottingham Uni and you want to move to London, then Clapham's the place to be! Kilburn/West Hampstead's much better though!

Oi I'm SICK and TIRED off people running Brixton down! Please all get off your high horses and chill out about Brixton .....
clapham is better than kilburn. good transport links (trains/busses/tube) and good mix of residential and commerical spots and clubs/restaurants. if brixton scared you (don't see why it should've, really - but then guys always seem to find trouble) then there are places in clapham that would be suitably staid for you - i.e full of "young professionals" and "yummy mummies".

Sorry in my fury I spelt OFF incorrectly ..... Am OK now and have calmed down ;-)

In response to another thread which was started but has now vanished, I will list 10 good things about Brixton ....

1. The Brixton Academy

2. The Fridge

3. Mass &  The Bug bar

4. The Tube and Transport links

5. The Ritzy Cinema

6. Electric Avenue Market

7. Brockwell Park

8. Harlem Soul Food

9. The Brixton Bar and Grill

10. The people!

Nuff said.

I will be working as a doorman. Getting punched in the face is something I can cope with - being killed in a drive-by shooting is not high on my list of things to do.
LB of Merton is quite nice.I lived in Wimbledon for twenty years and liked it. There's Lower Morden,Raynes Park,Motspur Park.
All quite nice areas and handy for public transport. It's a bit further out but Surbiton is quite nice.Failing that come and live in Norfolk Andy. With 24hour licencing coming into effect here at the seaside, pretty soon we will need more bouncers!!

Or you could come and stay with me at my london pad!!(:)

here

I'll come and stay with you Vinny. As long as I don't have to clean your windows....
I can just imagine Vinny in a Pinny.
It gets a bit noisy in the morning ..what with all my servants marching up and down...but you can  stay in  the west-wing BigDogsWang...How did you no I wear a pinny shaneystar...bloody tourists with there zoom lenses!!(:)
