Today is the 30th anniversary of the loss of HMS Sheffield in the Falklands when she was struck by an Exocet missile. My friend lost his son that day. Speaking with the ships captain later, he was told that they only had 10 seconds warning when one of the crew spotted the missile approaching just above wave height. They had no chance. RIP.

very sad
Great respect for our armed forces.
I think that I am correct in saying that those particular ground to surface missiles followed the contour of the terrain so that they were invisible to radar when approaching a hill. The Sheffield was n waters surrounded by hills and hence was vulnerable to this type of missile attack.

Tragic loss of life of men "doing their job."
Wasn't it an Exocet missile sold by the French to the Argentinians.
