Just been to the shops where there was a family group of what I am assuming was dad, mum, gran and little boy of about 18 months. The little boy was having a minor meltdown and when he was safely in the trolley (and behaving lovely) the dad said to the gran 'hasn't he just got a face you could slap'! I couldn't believe my ears, if he says things like that in public I would hate to think what he says or does in private. Someone should slap his face.

Sorry for the rant, just made me so cross and sad.

Don't think he was.
he must have been jesting, he would be unlikely to mention his intentions to the gran if he was serious
Was he definitely talking about the child?
Agree with Cazzz...

Obviously I could be completely wrong but from his body language when the boy was having the minor melt down and I believe he was talking about the child.

Redhelen - I am not over-reacting I am merely mentioning something that I observed. Its not like I reported him to childline or confronted him. OK, horrible things do happen but I am entitled to post on chatter bank - you don't have to respond.

its a fine line unfortunately between whats real and overreacting, a parent who brings a camera to a school play gets treated like a paedophile because he wanted to get a picture of his son perfoming in the nativity.

to some people there, he is a paedophile, just for bringing the camera.

this guy could have said something in jest mixed with frustration, it does not make him a child abuser.
<my mother said and did a lot worse to me as a child and i turned out OK. >
Hmmm! Are you sure Red? :-)
He may have just been frustrated or joking, I have cooed at my nephew that he is a 'stinky little bu**er'' and whilst he absolutely is stinky and little he's clearly not a bu**er, there was no actual malice in my statement. Maybe this fella was just thinking 'ooooh look at him behaving now like butter wouldn't melt when just now he was crying like a hell child'... I'm sure he probably didn't mean he wnated to slap the child or else I can't imagine he'd have said that to granny.

I was stood behind a lady and small child in a queue a while ago and after a fair amount of effing and blinding at him him said to him about understanding why a mother ending up killing her kids (referring to a recent, at the time, case of a mother having killed her children locally). I was horrified.

Cazz, a group of my friends went ice skating a while back. People were skating at different speeds and one of the guys was skating on his own when a few women came up and started interrogating him and pretty much accusing him of being a paedophile as he seemed to be on his own.
I agree sherr. Joking or not, it's not a very nice thing to say about a child. A face you could squish, yes... but not slap.
I was out a couple of weeks ago, and was horrified to hear a father tell his young teenage daughter, if she took one more mouthful of food, he would give her a good smack. Nice.
A lot of people say things out of frustration like "I could kill her". It usually doesn't mean they actually do.
