hi there. I was in love with ballet since forever, but I was pretty uncoordinated and had some health issues so the doctors suggested I should take up swimming when I was about 9 . I practiced swimming for almost 3 years and then decided to take up dancing. Unfortunately, I was kind of well-built and my parents said that I was too old to start ballet, considering the fact that I kind of sucked at dancing. But I practiced modern dancing and majorettes for the past 5 years and improved quite a bit so I decided to follow my dream. Am I too old? How difficult would it be for me to catch up?

I`m of average height and a bit plump, but I`m flexible and learn easily.

how old are you now
like a lot of specialist activities like gymnastics, most of the girls who do them at a professional level have done them since childhood, realistically to start from scratch at your age would make it difficult for you to achieve a career in it professionally, as a past time/pursuit you are not too old!

Tony Hadley and friends took up with the ballet again and they're in their 40s
Ask at your nearest dance school - even if you only took it up for fun, it's never too late.

I work at a school that teaches ballet although I don't know anything about the discipline itself. The girls and boys here do ballet from a young age and because of the demands of the dance and the unnatural twist of the joints even those that have been doing ballet for 5 to 10 years hurt themselves and walk around with crutches for a week or two. If you do insist you must go and see a physiotherapist who will test your flexability and give you advice according to your body.
