The handbrake on my wife's Fiat Multipla stopped working. Took it to my local Fiat dealer who said that it would cost about £250 to replace / fit. Is this reasonable?

No.

Take it to a local garage, it might only need a small adjustment.

Need more info about it.
It should take approx 2hrs if that, Never use a dealer Bigwig, you are paying for their overheads, take Tourmans advise.
my handbrake stopped working
i took i it to my local small garage it had seized adjusters it was fixed in 30 mins while i waited,£12 job done
On a Fiat, it may just be the rear shoes worn .. and/or the pre-adjusters. Some of these used to be self-centering adjusters .. Fiat used to fit such a lot of crappy stuff!
Any local garage will do this easily.
