Does anyone have experience of what happens if something does not arrive from Amazon. It was dispatched two weeks ago via the free postal service but hasn't shown yet. We haven't had that many issues with post because of the snow so I have a feeling it just might not show up. It was only about 11 quid but what will they do if it doesn't ever turn up?

It wil turn up. You might not have any issues with snow but I doubt Amazon is just round the corner from you. If it doesn't turn up in say a month, contact Amazon and ask what has happened.
Just because you don't have many issues with the snow doesn't mean other parts of the country haven't. Like where it's being dispatched from...

Well you were both right. It has just arrrived. Unfortunately it was delivered to the wrong place on Monday and he has only just bought it here which means the £35 I spent last night on a replacement pressie is a little wasted. I'm a little annoyed.
can you hang on to the replacement till the recipient's birthday?

I heard about that Vibra but because I ordered it a few weeks ago I don't think mine falls into the refunded lot.

They are both DVDs for my Dad and his birthday isn't until August. I could take the one I bought last night back I suppose although that would mean having to go back into town at some point. Or I could just stop being a grump and give him both. The thing is he isn't giving us gifts this year because of the cost. He is buying for grandchildren only and I don't want to make him feel guilty if he knows I've forked out for him.
I ordered something from Amazon which was despatched on the 8th. Maybe I'm optimistic but I'm still hoping it turns up. If not, well, Mr Spudqueen will have to have his pressie a bit late, that's all.

Oh! Maybe I should check my account then.

Nope, no refund in my account so far.
This year people that have relied heavily on internet shopping have experienced the disapointments that can happen when weather disrupts services. That may be stating the obvious, but as i am in retail and I have seen so many people lose their jobs because of the shift to internet shopping, I have no sympathy whatsoever with anyone who has been let down with any online deliveries. the company i work for has had to give up selling dvds and cds because of the online business, but guess what's happened now, hundreds of customers are wanderin around the stores looking to buy the DVD they wanted but they're shocked that the product is no longer stocked, Well tough, yet they still et shirty when told to order online lol Makes me laugh.

Oh, well I won't do that then considering I do actually have it now.

Dotty, I know it can be very tough for high street retailers, particularly with electrical and media items. It's difficult for on-line retailers too. I used to work for a company called CD WOW. As the name suggests, we sold CD's and DVD's and at one time were one of the most popular places for online shopping in the UK. A few years the competition got the better of us and the whole operation had to be bought out by an aussie company, making everyone in the UK office redundant. The fact of the matter is that times move on and businesses have to try and keep up with modern mediums. As we have seen this week, no business is fail proof and this will hopefully make some people realise that the high street is still very much needed. However for a lot of people money is a big deal and when you can make a vast saving by shopping on line, for a lot of people it's the best option.
but you've spent twice as much because you relied on an online service lol
Question Author
Yep! lol. I did buy a few other bits online and saved about 40 quid in all so it kind of worked both way. Ho hum.
Errr, isn't everyone missing the point here? Just return it for a refund, simple
have to disagree dotty. if whsmith could offer me dvds or books at a competative price i might well buy them there. But they don't so i don't!
re:internet shopping deliveries, i think there is something quite nice about getting a present after christmas. After all a lot of people have a glut of presents on the day, and there is something quite nice about getting a belated one a few weeks later
bednobs, if the internet business hadn't been so successful they would be able to do, but high street stores cost more to run than a shed with lots of shelving and skeleton staff,
true, but it's very hard for an average consumer to think long term. You have a choice between paying £15.99 for a book or £9.99 for a book (which then gets delivered to your door for free meaning you don't have to trudge into town and pay parking)
It would be a no-brainer for most people really
