Not sure where to put this so going for the old failsafe of Chatterbank! Today when driving along the A5 in Northamptonshire, going northbound, about four miles from Flore Hill near Weedon I saw an extremely low plane flying over to the east. It was possibly a military plane but does anyone know of any reason why it would be so low (apart from landing) or where it could have been going?

Could have been something to do with the elections. Where any of the "leaders" over your way today?
If I knew which direction Flore was I might be able to answer....lol

There's an airfield between Northampton and Kettering.
I used to work at Roade school (just outside Northampton) and they used to use the school as some sort of 'focal point' (don't know the correct term) when they were out and about. I saw all sorts including a stealth bomber.
Could have been a military plane - they sometimes fly at low altitudes ; as part of training exercises
Roade is pretty....
There's a US airforce base near Brackley, could have been on exercises from there?
ummm - I loved lived living in Northampton although I suppose it has changed quite a bit by now (it was 16 years ago).

Not sure, have googled to find out but can't see anything to suggest any of them would be
Not really sherrardk. A few new housing estates but they are on the outskirts. Not much has really changed in town.

Ooh sorry, lots of answers were added then! Don't think it was going towards Kettering ummm, think it would have gone over the M1 but looked more like it was going in the direction of Market Harborough, although can't be sure obviously!
I'm crap with roads.....could it be sywell?
http://www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk/location.php

The M1 is on that map....lol
Question Author
Possibly, thought it was going more north than that but as I was driving couldn't stare for too long so may be mistaken!

They're all quite little planes on that website, unless they accomodate larger planes as well I doubt it was there.
I didn't actually really check the site. Just looked for location....

Haven't got a clue then....but this is coming from someone who still hasn't been to Wellingborough.
Look at RAF/USAF stations on Google, Sophie...
Was it a big plane or a smaller one.........?
-- answer removed --
They use quite a large plane flying low when an area is being mapped, surveyed or photographed..
LOL Jatte, wings not rotors!
