Yep, filled up last night at 107.9 (up from 104.9 on New Year's Eve), then I noticed today it had gone up to 110.9. And I haven't seen anything in the news
Diesel's been 115.9 for a couple of weeks here

Hi Jason,p
where's here though?
down here in swansea petrol is 112.9 and diesel 114.9
Mostly to do with VAT going up 2.5% on Jan 1st. I remember the fuel strikes about 11 years ago. Unfortunately, none of us HGV drivers can afford the diesel to protest any more!!

got to admit have always backed fuel protest's , all the mp's seem concerned about is money in THEIR pockets.(holidays fiddles & such)
not the people who really keep this country running!

worked for 5 weeks @ oil refinery in pembroke. great place but bit off the beaten track, (i tow a caravan, bit of a drag to south wales.
It's because VAT went back up again. So another 2.5p on a pound. It was all over the papers and TV.
VAT only accounts for between 33 and 50 % of the increase.

(And didn't I hear that some fuel tax went up when VAT was reduced ? If so how come it didn't come back off again when VAT went up ?)

I'm unsure what the global crude price has done recently, but I suspect someone is profiteering somewhere.

When you think it was "only" seventy something a litre a few years ago, difficult to believe the increase since then isn't anything more than squeezing the consumer for all that can be taken from them.
Hi squarebear- the VAT increase of around 3p seemed to go through right at the beginning of January as expected. It's the subsequent increase over the last week that's being queried.
However, while TESCO last week pushed its prices up by 3p a litre to 110.9 for unleaded, I notice my shell garage is still charging 'only' 107.9 .
£1.079 here at morrisons mansfield

It can't be because of supply and demand as we have many tankers just sitting off the coast while prices rise. Its more than the bankers who should be receiving stick.
Is this any good to any one???
