Does anyone have a number fopr paypal that isnt connected to an automated system?

my mum has just had an email from paypal claiming that a new email addy has been added to her account.

she hasnt ever used paypal though set it up years ago so she cant recall her password or whether she had a card linked to it (to get password reminder you need to answer Qs about card numbers)

She tried calling them but all she gets is an automated system and really needs to speak to someone directly to get help

It is likely that this email has not come from PayPal but from a fraudster hoping she will click a link on the email and enter her personal details.

She should send it to [email protected].

Check her eBay account - is there any new listings that she hasn't listed or other unusual activity?

Thanks both
ive checked her ebay account but theres nothing there thats been added.
She did say shes clicked a link on the email. But without knowing her old password she cant get on paypal and change it.
the number she used wasnt that one, so will ask her to try that
Question Author
ethel,
that number doesnt work unfortunately :(

mum did click on a link in the mail. Apparently it asked for her email and password.
she entered what she thought was her password on that link and then it said it wasnt the password, which is when she called me.
Fill this in:

You can check the email header to see where it came from:

Blow - the link didn't work

From the PayPal home page, click 'report unauthorised activity' in the left hand panel.

The follow through for 'unable to sign in'
heya yeh i get loads of emails in from a 'paypal' claiming that i have spent all this money and at the start it worried me, but then i realised there spam..
hope u get the problem sorted! :)
There seems to be a lot of it about at the moment - the credit crunch must be bighting the fraudsters!

I have had two dodgy emails over the last couple of days about my Alliance and Leicester account and my Abbey account, neither of which I have.

If your Mum did type in the correct passwords to the email, it will tell her that they are incorrect and the fraudster will keep the real ones. On the other hand, if they were rubbish then the fraudsters can't do anything. If she cant get through on the phone, she needs to at least send off an email and keep a copy - paypal should cover her from the point at which she advised them that her account could be used fraudulently.

thank you all.
Mumk has now got an email back from paypal who say that it may have been a phishing mail she recieved.
She managed to log into paypal, change her password and then close down the account (she didnt use it anyway)

We now have to run and antivirus scan on her PC and fingers crossed all will be OK.
Hi redcrx. This happened to me last year and after 2 weeks of panic I also closed my Paypal account.Someone in the US had taken about 80 from my account,Paypal informed me within about an hour.I did manage to speak to someone who was really helpful.I found a number somewhere on the site. She told me that this person had probably tried this on about 100 accounts (smallish amounts) I was really worried because the account was linked to my bank account.Anyway long story short I closed it and have never used it again. If I buy on Ebay I just look for a seller who will accept a personal cheque but it's not that easy.Your mum did the right thing.
