Can't afford the optician at the moment so I want some new specs for reading which are 'ready to wear'. Where can I get a pair that don't look like something out of the NHS forty years ago? Those wire frame ones make me look 92.

supermarkets with pharmacies, chemists, cheap shops.
I think Primark or Matalan sell them.
Highly reccommend "Glasses Direct" very trendy ,some designer frames also very cheap cut out the middleman, just get your eyes tested and send youre prescription and youre stated choice and they will make them for you and prices start from 15
I've recently had my eyes tested at Tesco's. They were offering free eye tests and it was found that I needed glasses. As I only needed single lense's I chose a pair from their cheap range - 20 - and went away very happy. Give your local large supermarket a try?
try Selectspecs.com, I have bought loads from here and they are good, trendy glasses, they have a budget range which is mint........have a look

Thanks everyone, I have written a list of all the shops and will have a good look round now ... if I can read the list !!
costco do great reading specs - pack of 3 for about 15 and lots of choice of good modern styles. i have about 9 or more pairs of these dotted all over the house, in all my coat pockets, car, handbag, etc., so i'm never without a pair. i only have prescription ones for reading in bed, and a different prescription for tv watching.
Boots?
My prescription is 2.25+ for both left and right, so I simply purchased a pair of 2.5+ and a pair of 2.0+ glasses from ASDA... at 2 for two pairs... wow... they do the job (car, emergency use, lounging around) and are so cheap that it really doesn't matter if I lose or sit on them.
