OK, I'm a virgin at this and between the family we are getting an ipod nano. My question is if I buy speakers only, do I also have to buy a docking station as well or does it charge independly - what is a good make etc, etc!
Thanks

Your Nano will come with a USB charger/connector to your PC. Whilst its connected to your PC it will be charging too.You can buy an independant charger which plugs into your wall socket. Some speaker systems plug into the wall socket too and will charge your Nano as it plays. I play mine through my TV/DVD Amp and through my main speakers. I have a Desnion link for my Cars so I can operate it hands free through the steering wheel controls. I also have a small folding travel docking system which I bought from Dixons - MicroBlast it is called - which is adequate and the sounds not bad. You can run it from batteries - 4 x AA or best from the mains which also charges the Nano too. My mate bought the Bose system which he says is AWESOME !! It depends on personal taste, budget and how you intend using it.
