how come you can buy reading glasses from just about everywhere for about 1.99, but you can't get cheap glasses for short sighted people?
Is it cheaper to make long sighted lenses?
I know my prescription number - so why can't I just go and buy a pair, like my nan can?

i know what you're saying, but if they can make the magnifying lenses in varying strengths, why can't they make the lenses that work in the opposite way (trying to thnk of a word that means that). I know that really you should get prpoer ones, especially if you have odd eyes etc.
My glasses broke - again - this morning and i can't afford to buy any new ones until next month. I just thought how convenient it would be to be able to buy a cheapy pair to put me on.
I don't want you to worry about my nana's eyes, she has prescription glasses, but once bought a pair of cheapies on holiday when she'd forgotten them.
I need glasses for reading as I am long-sighted, but like you broke my glasses and couldn't afford new ones so bought the cheapies out of Superdrug & been using them ever since. When I went for an eye test earlier this year I told the optician I was using cheapies & she didn't seem that concerned. I suppose it was because my prescription hadn't changed enough to worry her.
You can take you prescription to anyone that makes spectacles. Some idependant makers can work out a lot cheaper than opticians. Check out your local yellow pages.
My brother has just bought 2 pairs of glasses (one of them sunglasses) for just over 30! They seem to be good quality and are fashionable frames.

I, however have such bad eyesight (a really strong prescription and astigmatisms) that 2 pairs of galsses set me back nearly 300 in Boots! And that includes a hefty discount from being on their vision plan!

My parents buy their cheap reading glasses in Poundland - so tell your Nan that she could get an even better bargain if she shopped around!
