My husband and myself have been invited to a golden wedding anniversary in May, and the dress code said smart casual, no jeans or trainers, and men should wear ties, does that mean suits for the men, or is it ok to wear seperate jacket and trousers.

Thanks

smart would be suits but smart casual indicates that seperate trousers and jacket will be fine. Just make sure your husband wears a nice shirt and not a t-shirt obviously!
I should imagine that a blazer or jacket , tie and smart casual trousers will be fine.
jeans and a rolling stones t shirt will be just the thing
