I think if she was still in her teens people might be more understanding, but at 31 she should have a better idea of what is event and age appropriate. Unless she was a nun of course and fresh from the convent in which case a little lack of fashion knowledge would be understandable.
Quite right, Rowan. Abbey is not a child and if she seeks opinions she's going to get opinions. She clearly wasn't perturbed by those opinions because she kept asking the same sort of question, almost by rote.

However, I would be genuinely upset if I thought I'd offended her. I am surrounded by people in my daily life who just say it as it is and I can't help but do the same sometimes.

Sadly I think there are people who want to stir it up for their own nefarious reasons on this thread but I'll just do what I normally do and ignore them.
I've been guilty of moaning at Abbey in the past, but I now think she is insecure and looks to others for endorsement. People of any age can feel that way. Ridiculing her or playing the high and mighty is simply unkind.

As for her choice of clothing, that isn't an age thing either. It's not unusual these days for young women - and 31 is young - to wear the sort of thing Abbey posts. Anyone who thinks that doesn't happen needs to get out more.
So lovely that a young lady can come on AB asking for advice.
Do please do return Abbey, we don't have our claws out all the time... some are a bit erm...
Abbeyleigh, come back! We are not all nasty or unpleasant.

You really need to work on becoming more confident and to try and stay in one job for at least six months.

My boss travels one and a half hours to work and the same to get home.

I wish you well in the future. X
Wolf. agree with you wholeheartedly , the young lady is smart and knows about posting links... Unfortunately I couldn't help with which dress is prettier.

Having said that I haven't being golfing since Portugal many moons ago.
Click bait helps AB rise like a Phoenix.
Sadly there are a few ABers who appear kind on one thread and then mock her on another. No wonder Abbey is sensitive about her situation.
As ABed has explained, he has temporarily put her profile as user-inactive while he sorts out her suspected security.
Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself.
//We are not all nasty or unpleasant.//

Indeed, although I have been on the receiving end of some unprovoked and unpleasant attacks from you, working in tandem with others.

//Sadly there are a few ABers who appear kind on one thread and then mock her on another//

Where has Abbey been mocked? She asked for opinions, she got opinions. Some people might make sarcastic or flippant comments but that is called wit and is not akin to mocking someone.
Keeping an eye out for a new male user looking for fashion advice.

Kirkleigh?
I just lost half a cup of earl grey then, Doug!
//Where has Abbey been mocked? //

I am sure you know the answer to that ...
Not on one of Abbey's threads, but elsewhere.

Subtle difference between sarcasm/wit and mocking.
I hope Ed can sort her security problem.

Oh for goodness sake, Abbeyleighis allegedly 31 years old, she gets her answers to the many questions she asks about jobs, clothes etc, on the job front she rarely takes any advice anyway which is why I mainly stay away from her posts , as for the post from Lcg, it was no more than a bit of fun but had truth in it, she was going out and asked what dress she should wear , it wasn’t malicious at all , I’m not going to join the chorus of come back Abbeyleigh, if she does ,she does, FGS, she is a grown woman….she says, not a young teenager , she may have a few problems I agree but advising her is liking hitting one’s head off a brick wall so basically, I don’t!
I hope her security issue is sorted, I’ve been there and it’s not nice, I wish her well
This thread has gone way over the subject and should be closed
Bobbisox, think how you'd laugh at that 'bit of fun' (two bits of fun actually) if you were on the receiving end. One person's bit of fun is another's torment.
Abbeyleigh was probably scared off after someone on here to claimed to be a computer geek said they had personally verified her identity.

If I knew the answer, I wouldn't have asked the question. However if you are erroneously referring to the question I asked about what to wear, the question is actually a genuine one. As one of the oldest mothers there I am naturally conscious about my appearance.

//Subtle difference between sarcasm/wit and mocking.//

No, the difference is quite stark. Mocking someone in a cruel way is unnecessary. You can poke fun at someone or even yourself without there being anything sinister behind it. I work in an office with 5 other ladies (the rest of the Team is spread across another 2 offices) and they are the most sarcastic (hilarious) bunch of women I've ever met - and I love it. I consider them all to be not only colleagues but friends.
Gosh, I didn't realised that had happened, 237. I take it the poster was banned?
