I was talking to a couple of friends this week about Xmas. One said that she looks at charity shops/EBay etc throughout the year and if she sees something that is almost new/ hardly used but she likes it then she will buy it and put it aside for Xmas. She says why does it have to be brand new if you know they will like it? Another friend says her and her husband don’t buy each other presents anymore as they were just buying stuff for the sake of it in the end, so what they do is they wait till Xmas is over, then they go out and choose something together that they want for either the house or the garden.
What are your thoughts on present buying?

Hi Smow,we don’t buy for one another now ,if we want something we go and get it, this began a few years ago, same with my daughter and her husband, she insisted no presents although I give my grandson money ( 18), even my friend this year has said likewise, we are however taking a small gift to exchange when we’re away at Christmas

Hi Bobbi - I think a lot of people are starting to do the same this year. (Like the profile photo lol)
Personally I wouldn’t buy someone a second hand or sale item, depends who I’d be giving , I might ‘forward gift’ to them ;0)
I don't buy presents - it's the thought that counts!
i dont think you should buy crap for the sake of it i think it should mean something or have a purpose or need
Funnily enough, the other day I saw a secondhand jigsaw I know my friend will like, so I bought it her for Christmas. I have done it before and asked her what her views were on the matter and she said she wasn't bothered. I have a few new things to go with it.
I have a bag stuffed with Xmas,bdays , father's day presents
o god I hope they will like this and use it
they often dont ( but I do when I vizeet).
I would never buy gifts from a charity shop personally, but I have a male friend who does and one year he gave me a box of scented candles (I love scented candles) and while the box was a little battered, the candles inside had, of course, never been used and it was a present I really cherished because he got me something he knew I would like.

I’ve seen a couple of things on EBay that are unused and brand new, but being sold because the owner simply doesn’t want them and I’ve got them, but they are still in original wrapping and even have the tags on so nobody would ever know they had been pre-owned.
If you believe that, smowball, you can have my magic beans at a once in a lifetime price.
I don't see the contradiction - there is certainly plenty of new stuff for sale on ebay whether it's from a retailer or a private individual.

Did you buy those on e bay Douglas?
You think they were probably stolen Douglas?

With ebay its often how it left the retailer (or individual). Often not via a till.
We only buy Christmas presents for the under 18s in the family. That's the way it's been for many years and it makes for a much happier Christmas in our opinion

Dont get your point Douglas - the items are still in the original cellophane wrapping.
Question Author
That’s not a bad idea Barry.
Smow, he's suggesting that you are buying stolen goods.
In October ..

No thoughts .
