OH had an appointment at a hearing clinic in the next town at 9.00 am.
After that to Tesco for diesel, then in the store for a mooch round. Then to
B & M for another mooch. Then to a store in a local village for some gorgeous wild boar sausages. Then on to doctors to drop prescription in.
Then finally local shop for daily papers. Felt quite exhausted after that little excursion.

I'll bet he feels better about having his ears done Caran.
caran - are you the lady whose husband got the cochlear implants - if so, is he happy with them.

Pardon?
I meant syringing,he hasn't had the implant yet.

JJ he was due for them the week before Christmas. It was all organised, hotels booked etc and they cancelled two days before. They said he needed heart scans to check he was ok before the op. He has had numerous scans this year but we are still waiting. He hadn't had his ears cleaned out since February. Hospital tells us no more procedures like that are being done due to government rulings. He has been almost totally deaf for weeks. He has hearing aids in both ears. They need looking at as needing maintenance work. No appointments available. So he paid £35 to have it done privately, took five minutes.

Mamya, it isn't syringing, they use a complex suction method now.
oh sorry to hear that Caran - that the implants didn't go through. As you know I'm deaf myself but totally depend on lip reading - have been doing so from I was about 3 years old. Like it just came naturally and it has been a godsend. However with the masks today I'm totally sad and "lonely" as I could have read many a "face". But there goes it. xx
Apologies.

That's ok Mamya!

So sorry JJ, must be hell for you. You must feel so cut off and lonely.
JennyJoan, I can’t imagine how tough it must be for you living alone and everyone wearing masks.
Husband is deaf and hardly goes out now because he can’t rely on lipreading.
Caran, also tough for your hubby. Deafness is one of those disabilities that people can’t see but really make life difficult.

It does have its numerous moments though. He invents things I have said.
His best was, I said something, he asked why would you do that?
I asked what do you mean.
He said, spread smoked salmon over your legs!
I wish I could remember what my original remark was !
Question Author
Numerous not numerous!!!
I’ve had a few of those too, Caran. Must write them down. :)

AGAIN!! Humourous not numerous!!!!!
i have many stories,

many years ago my mum was cooking in the kitchen and she asked me for a calendar, I got a stool climbed and reached for it - when I brought it to her - she said no, no - a colander. My family never took my deafness on - they just didn't.

I have a speech impediment and when I was about 20 went to speech therapy. When I used to come home from the appointment - all the brothers started to "pretend" to stammer - ah ah ah ah, and eh eh - we all had a laugh. not at other people's expense but only mine. They were just larking.

Another time my brother (how he got it - my phone number in work) - rang me on the phone and I'm all nervous on the phone and kept asking him to repeat, he lost the bap and shouted - "are ye deaf or what" - says I - I am and have been for all my life ye b". I just took all this for granted. But the masks are another spectrum in my life - I just feel sorry for everybody else in hospitals, trying to get treatment for all their various illnesses, trying to keep up with the new rules. So I am relatively lucky considering all that.

Why do some people think it's acceptable to make fun of those with hearing loss? Would you make fun of the blind? It's juvenile and offensive.
^ Yes and he's constantly on here giving us up-dates about the situation at his house (apparently)! Doesn't like it when people don't believe him or even care.
Think baldric was only jesting
