I recently bought a TV that was on display in a store and was advertised as reconditioned, the assistant told me that there was nothing wrong with the set, which I then decided to buy. However since setting it up at home I have noticed a number of faults that I am not too happy with and I'm not even sure if they can be repaired, can I now return the TV to the shop and ask for a refund or at the very least exchange it for another TV in their store??

If it was sold as reconditioned, it still should have some sort of warranty, if maybe shorter than If you had bought a boxed one.

I would phone the shop from where you bought it, and ask about returning it.

I would phone the shop & ask to speak to the Manager.

If you do this, but feel you're being fobbed off, you could always try your local Trading Standards Office for advice.

If it is "not fit for purpose", and you were told it was working correctly before you purcahsed it, yo uare entitled to a refund or a repair (your choice not the store's choice).

If you elect to have it repaired, if it goes wrong again, you are then not entitled to a refund but only to have it repaired (though obviously at the store's cost not yours).

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice people. I don't think I'll bother with a repair, I'll just ask to exchange it for another set in the store, the only problem I can forsee is that I've since thrown away the box that it came in, so I suppose the store could argue that they would be unable to re-sell it without this :-( Oh well we'll see.....

Your argument on that one would be that: you didn't expect the TV to have faults & not to work - hence the reason you no longer have the box!

Good luck SAH.

How did you get on today SAH?

I quite agree smudge and that's a very good point, I went back to the shop today and spoke to the Manager who was very helpful and was happy for me to return the TV, mind you that was probably only because I wanted to exchange it for another model in the store which cost more and so that mean't he'd get even more money out of me! As for the lack of box he didn't really seem to mind....
I'm so glad you were able to return the TV SAH. Heppy viewing with your 'new' one!
