My only criticism is that it gives lower use of electricity in third world countries as a positive, when the reality is many people don't have 24 hour electricity nor the gadgets to use it.

GDP needs to be balanced against cost of living, really - you might make less abroad but if it costs less to live, you may be no worse off.
