The air's still here and hardly a breath of a breeze. Is this the lull before the storm?

They are saying it's coming in tonight/tomorrow...

wee bitof a breeze here in the advance guard of the UK for this one, sandy. Going out in a few mins to start the battening down

Hopefully, it won't be as bad for the people in the south as some are saying. The weather people might be afraid of falling into the same trap that Michael Fish dug for himself, so they're making it sound worse than it may be.
It's been so wet and windy down here all weekend I thought it had come already. I'm just glad I'm not on a transatlantic flight!
That's what usually happens but better to be safe than sorry.
calm here in stoke as well...for now...
I'm due to miss the brunt of it but am going to get myself a torch as in case there are any power issues. Getting up for a bus just before 6am may be a bit of a challenge without power.
its the calm before the storm..
I'm hoping a neighbour's eucalyptus tree is going to blow down :-)
Should I put the parasol away, do you think?
It is eerily quiet here. "I say, Carstairs, it is too damn quiet for my liking. Listen! Is that the sound of jungle drums? What are they saying?...." etc

It's sunny, too. And no sooner said, than the wind just started as I typed that parody. Eek! Worse must be to come.
Sunny with a light breeze here in South Yorkshire, however I think I will give the car a treat and put it in the garage, too many tall conifers nearby.
It's ok in Manchester at the moment, quite bright even though quite a few grey clouds about, was all wind and rain last night.

The local weather has some rain from 9am for a few hours then not again until 9pm.
yes, Tilly, and lash the hamsters to a tree
Keep hoping, Prudie. Unfortunately, eucalypts are astonishingly wind resistant. None here have ever blown down and some are over 60 feet high. Even a combination of wind and frost, which appeared to kill some, did not kill any. They looked dead, but grew new leaves, out of the trunk, which eventually became new branches. Bad luck!
I've just thought about wheelie bins too, most are empty just after a collection day so need to check they aren't somewhere that can be blown about as they tend to get blown over a lot anyway.

Might there be food shortages? Should we all go out while we can and stock up on milk, bread, and the like?
it might be wise to hire a cow and a breadfruit tree, sandyRoe. Be prepared to keep both indoors, though.
I know I'm being over optimistic. This damn thing is nearly 40 feet high but just a single spindly trunk. Unfortunately it bends!
Rightho, jno. Now where did I put that yellow ribbon?
