I thought you got one of those on the birth of your first child...anyone else?

Traditionally it is supposed to be after the birth of the 1st child as Andy has stated, but in this day and age I dont suppose it matters. My hubby bought me mine after I'd come out of hospital after having all four of my wisdom teeth pulled- ouchy!
I thought it was for the birth of a first child or first wedding anniversary. (Willing to be proved wrong though!).
no hard and fast rule surely ..... a ring should be given when one feels like giving it , my eternity ring though was given on our first anniversary and i did get diamond on the birth of first child ...... i think its special whenever x
I wasn't aware of any tradition about when one should be bought, I got mine for our 21st wedding anniversary. I would say buy one whenever you want.

My Dad bought one for Mum on her 40th birthday.  That doesn't go with any of the traditions I know, but she was still gobsmacked and delighted.  And it's a gorgeous ring and means the world to her.

Personally I would say to wait a litle longer than 3 months, and to surprise her.  Let the conversation on it die down, and maybe get one for her next big birthday or your 1st anniversary.  But don't tell her - you must know her well enough by now to know what she'd want! :-)

PS - Am VERY jealous!

It sounds to me that she wants more gold and diamonds on her finger!! She may also be a little embarrassed by the size of her engagement ring!!!
My bloke got me mine on our first anniversary.
The normal tradition is after the birth of your first child but if you have no children or are unable to have children then you would get her this ring on your first wedding anniversary.
