A very dear German friend of mine is coming to stay for a few days next month, and I know she will bring some gifts for us, so really would love to get her something. She is 40ish, just married (no kids) graphic designer and she doesn't come over here to the UK very often. Also due to the new airport/flying rules wouldn't want to get her something she can't fly home with. Any ideas?

LOL.
Yes lol lol lol Mike ..very funny .Pretty obvious you don't like the Germans .
Grow up .
Do my eyes deceive me, or have I just been chastised by a German-looking dog?
Apologies again Sqad, for having spelled wrongly your name.

Ron.
Yes ..he was a german shepherd cross and would have bitten you on the bum ..no worries :)
Ron.....no big deal.
Nowt wrong with German looking dogs mike!

;o)
There was a time when I was seriously worried at the thought of being bitten on the bum by a German shepherd dog. However, since becoming acquainted with Mrs Overall, I have realised that that is a mere pinprick in the scheme of things, compared to what she has in store for me.

Oi no calling shaney's dog, he's beautiful.
Spike Milligan's "My part in Hitler's Downfall."

More seriously, the saucer/cup from a local pottery and tea would go down well. Tregothnan tea from down here if you actually want a UK made tea.....not cheap though.

I was going to say a little food basket made of of english preserves and tea coffee etc, perhaps with a few bits of englishness in there like a keyring and some photographs/blank post cards of the area?
We brought a friend back a beatiful matching porcelain mug, saucer and tray showing an english landscape
Alternatively one of dt's drawings (etchings)
The mention of German dogs, has reminded me of a story. The Ed may remove it, because he has said that any jokes published outside of it's allocated section will be treated appropriately.

St.Bernard and a Dachshound walking through deep snow. St. Bernard says "My feet are really cold" Dachshound replies "Speak for yourself, I have other problems on my mind".

thank you sibton........one going over on Arts but nothing done today - tomorrow a good burst - minimum of the church window - and they take time to do!
i would get small hamper of local jams, honey and chutneys etc from a farm shop! we gave this for xmas and it was polular with all concerned!

then she can safely get them back home!

and remember she is coming to see *you*!
Was can mann tun.

On a lighthearted note, don't tell her/them that you have got a gift for them as,'auf deutsch', gift means poison.

Why not buy a painting by a local artist of somewhere you have/will take her to see.
We have German friends coming to stay with us quite often in London and they always make a beeline for a National Trust shop and buy tea and jams and preserves etc etc to take home for friends. The first time they came I took them to Buckingham Palace and they were so pleased they could buy the'Queens Tea' - didnt like to tell them it was the container that had a royal seal on!
