I regularily , see this particular car, parked right up against a lampost , actually touching it .

- I also see from time to time people opening their car door and the door touches the car parked alongside .

Both the above are RTA's

So should they report these incidents to their insurer ? - Would you ?

have you ever sat and watched paint dry.
If it worries you why not park behind them fairly closely :-) They might get the hint.

So if you are parked in a car park and a car parks up next to you - the driver opens his/her door hitting your car and denting it - you would be happy if he/she just walks away ?

The initial question I was asking really is - does an insurer class the two examples as an ' incident ' say for example , when you are filling in a proposal form for insurance , and the question is asked - ' have you had any incidents .... '
Your primary question is about touching and your secondary question is about denting.

Which do you want answered?
touching another car is not an RTA!!
as pointed out - 2 different statements - you are changing your OP now...

how can a car 'touching' a lampost be an RTA and someone elses fault?

if someone chooses to touch a lampost with their car thats up to them.
I once used my refelction in the wing mirror of a parked car to check my appearance....should I have left my details on the windscreen just in case ?
If someone opens their car door into someone else's car, that's negligence.

If someone parks by a lampost, that's stupid on the part of the parker. A lampost is much more solid than another car door. One causes damage, the other doesn't.

I'd report the door incident if opening my door into someone else's caused damage.
^ Read your second post now - parking against a lampost isn't a declarable incident, any more than running your tyre against the kerb is.
A small dent is a smart repair. Your excess is probably greater than the repair cost.

This is the reason that parent & child spaces are a must.
...and disabled, ummmm
And like Boxy says, it's careless, not an accident.
Yes...also disabled. Kids don't think about the car next to them when they open the doors. Disabled need the room.
You know who the insurer is for these cars?
