Just a quickie, guys ...

Black ties ... I mean bow ties, you know, for with a DJ ... is a "black tie" for funerals? but formal dress code is "black tie"

Anyway, quick one ... Which is more "in" at the mo?

Bow tie with two ends? or with a single end?

(like this)

If you were buying one, which would you get?

Sorry not with you JJ?

I need to buy a bow tie.

(I lost the BF's)

I wondered if a "black tie" is a black bow tie, or something you'd wear at a funeral.
Glad I have little need to buy formal clothing these days, looking at some of those prices...need to lose some weight to get into some of what I have mind..;0)
oops soz...can't help
"Black Tie " in military and I assume formal terms requires a bow tie of some design
Question Author
Yes.

I quite liked the one in the link.

I was trying to be cool, wearing the BF's bow, and I sort of lost it. I'd forgotten about it. I have to go to ponky London this week, so I'm going to buy one, if I remember.
Think I have about ten, one single ended black bow tie and the rest are of rather dodgy design...the Mr Blobby one being a low point!!

Real chaps don't buy ready made, they learn to tie them.....and it's easier for a lady to get off when required..;0)
Question Author
Mr Blobby? LOL

A low point? D'ya think?? ... LOL, LOL

"easier for a lady to get off when required"

Yep. And that happens mid way through the evening, and then you lose it, and think ... oh, poop.
Regimental Ladies "Dining-in" night.....with a Mr Blobby Bow tie...that was a low point...always carried a spare though
Ede and Ravenscroft (the link) have obviously diversified; they are the barristers' outfitters for wigs and gowns; and seem to offer only the single ended bow tie. I always wear double ended; the single ended was supposedy moe difficult to tie when I first wore one, 50 years ago; but if Ede's only offer the single ended, then I'll guess that that's now the thing to wear and I'm out of date
Hi JJ. xxx The one in the link is what I would buy. Formal dress. Funerals are normally an ordinary black tie. (White tie is for really posh occasions!)
Hope that helps.

Fred ...

Most places do a double ended one. The one I lost was single ended, and I just found that Edes do one.

I think single enders tie a smaller, neater bow than double enders. Also, you can adjust them for any neck size, like a normal, man's tie, so they don't need one of those adjustment things on the back.

Boaty ... I think I'm going to get the one in the link. I wonder if I should get two? If we have any more "tie loss" incidents. I can just reach into my bag, and go "taah daaaaah!!"

=0)
do that and you are guaranteed never to lose the first one..
Question Author
rowan ... so that's probably a good idea, then?

I thought it would be a bit sensual to take my BF's tie off, and tie it round my own neck, like a choker. I know, I know, but I was a bit trolleyed. Anyway, we got home, and I'd lost it, so that backfired a bit.

Now, if I could've whipped out a spare ...
at that stage he'd probably rather you whipped out something else.... silk cords or a pair of hancuffs maybe...
I have no experience of 'tie' bow-ties, I have only ever had the ones that come ready-tied, and you fasten them on with an elastic loop around the collar.

But if your BF and yourself can tie a 'proper' bow tie, why not get one of each, two ends and single end, and then you have a choice, and a little variety.

These days I only wear evening dress on our cruise holidays, and wheras black ties do dominate, a lot of people, myself included, wear a choice of bright bow ties offset with matching cufflinks.
Question Author
Well, I probably did that. I often do.
Question Author
Oh, Andy ... they are easy to tie.

I love tying his bow. It's quite sensual.

Cripes. I'm already getting adverts on my AB page from bow tie shops !!!!!
Blimey, Jayne, you put 'tie' in a post and get ads offering ties? Must try putting 'nubile woman' in mine.
