I am trying to fit many things into my handbag before going on holiday. Reading glasses and sunglasses in their cases take up so much room. Has anyone found any alternative protective cases to the very large ones often given at the optician?

I've never found anything. The nearest I found was a case I could wear on my belt, but it kept being torn off and eventually I could no longer sew it back together

I sure would be pleased if someone does have a brilliant idea.

Why not put sunglasses in a hard case and put them in your suitcase ? You can sometimes fit two pairs of glasses in a soft case for when you get there.
the best thing I used was a plastic zip up pencil case
Thats the best idea I've heard of follyfancier. I know what you mean rakermoon,I have two pairs one pair needs a large fat case which is a nuisance, because I always need a bigger handbag when I take them with me. Wish I'd realised that when I bought them.
In Italy I bought a soft padded case on a cord, allowing it to be worn round the neck if desired.
I like a hard case, I always worry I will sit on them (which I have done before) and hard case doesn't protect them.
I bought a hard case from Matalan which surprisingly fits in both my reading glasses and sunglasses.
