I know, I know ... it was on Thursday.

But I presume that Thanksgiving parties here are all taking place today (because we were all at work on Thursday).

from which part of America are you posting?
yup JJ
Norn Iron is choc-a-bloc with thanksgiving parties today
I doubt many british people celebrate it seeing as it was a way of the pilgrims to thanks the native americans for helping them get through their first year.

LOL

Err ... Sussex, USA
Question Author
We have some American friends ... yep, Brighton ... a cosmopolitan metropolis, LOL.

Anyway, they said years ago how much they missed Thanksgiving ... so, we do Thanksgiving for them, every year.

Since we started doing it, we've found that a lot of other people also celebrate Thanksgiving with their American friends over here.

About thirty of us are getting together today.
Wouldn't surprise me if it eventually caught on over here, like Trick and Treat, if there's money to be made out of it. Turkey TWICE a year? What a ghastly thought!
i think i'll celebrate the 185th anniversary of the adoption of the constitution of the Kingdom of Poland and do a quick pole dance
Question Author
Mike ...

Christmas is not hugely important in the US ... Thanksgiving is much bigger.

So turkey's not obligatory at Christmas. They'd be just as happy with beef (despite the image portrayed in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation).
Question Author
"the 185th anniversary of the adoption of the constitution of the Kingdom of Poland" ?

Err, yes ... that's very ... err ... important, too.
Perhaps we should celebrate Independence Day over here too, to show how grateful we are for not being American.
I still can't get over the amount of Americans that asked me what we do to celebrate the 4th of July in England when I was over there for it a few years back... They couldn't seem to grasp the idea that we might not celebrate losing (a boat of tea!)
Well at the moment I can't think of anything to give thanks for and not only that I have my mind clogged up with thinking about Christmas.

Yes, LOL

Oh, starbuck ...

Yes - got the grumps this morning, must be the snow. Or something.
I am surprised to learn that Christmas is not especially important in the US, given that it is the most religiously orientated countries of the Western world. It made a fortune for Bing Crosby.
Question Author
Christmas is related to religion ??

Golly !

=0)

Anyway, no ... Thanksgiving is waaaay bigger than Christmas in the US

(well, so Americans tell me)
^^I've been to the US for Christmas, and you could have fooled me!

Question Author
Maybe I should change the comparison to ...

"Thanksgiving is EVEN bigger than Christmas" ???

Does that work better ?
