Early yet, I know - I'm still finding out where I am with clocks going every which way, but as I was here, I thought - why not?

And it's going right down to the wire this month in one of the closest finishes yet, with a matter of 1 or 2 points separating about 14 people, so here we are, all ready and waiting patiently for our reliable 'early riser' to lodge the all important pearls of wisdom. I'll be back later, or should that read "I shall return" S

I'll go twiddle me fingers for a while and get back with results

just read the top bit - thats just great - NOT - about AQ - when did this happen ?? we'll call out the cavalry a little later - doubt if AB Ed is up and about yet !!!
I've got a sneaky suspicion that Aqua may really be a bit too friendly with the lady Ed ... as he is spending so much time in her inner sanctum!! ;O))

and you've been spending toooo much time in the shrubbery !!
....until the sisterhood of the shrubbery tried to cremate him!!!
Question Author
Doesn't that rot yer sox !!! When you're all ready for a wild and woolly finish and it turns out to be as tame as a pet lamb - baaa - humbug !!! [ oh dear, she's really lost it now !!! ]

Ok got that out of my system and down to business

slaney took bonus points for Dutch Uncle, then
paulineward did likewise with Belgian Endive, and at #8 JMR27 came in with a lethal swoop, took bonus points for both Britannia Silver & Lion Tamarin, plus an extra point for a total of 5.

From then on the scoring was very patchy with one notable exception - joto who was sitting on a score of 7 last week picked up 3 points for three good guesses and shot to the lead with 10 points

The previous two leaders, Christiana & roslyn251254 who had both scored 8 points to that stage, each gained 1 point this week and finished jointly in second place with 9 points

And a special mention to JMR27 who until now had a score of 3 points, played a blinder and finished third with 8 points

All with 7 points were JRB, brizzer & gen2
while with 6 points came slaney, Grenmus, seekeerz, twosearch & Paul21455

Congratulations to this months winner - a comparative newcomer to our ranks, but a very worthy one - joto

Well, that about winds up October, but we'll all be back again next weekend, to do it all again. seeya S

Ah, my friend Strix - well you scored two points but what was the clue for Uncle [I'm certain it didn't come out to 'Dutch' ] ??
well done all the ones who scored with these links
a bit more obscure me thinks
thanks Steff and Sarumite
see you all same time same place then
hope aq can join us soon
jan
Carb(ohydrates)!! - bit cheeky but hey you only live once (and pretty briefly if you play with the Laydees!
I had thought of doing "Dutch" but couldn't think of a suitably round-the-shrubbery (!) cryptic clue.

Promise (fingers crossed) to give straight answers to the Link Words next Saturday!

Have noted "The Fuzz" - thanks
BTW my wife was one of the Judges at the Grand National Horse Show at Wyong in 2003; this year she was one of the Judges at the Horse of the Year Show at Hastings, Hawkes Bay, NZ

Wow, Strix, I'm most impressed, with your wife's accomplishments - she doesn't know anything about riding side saddle, does she ?? In my spare time, [ whatever that is]
I'm Sec. for the local Assoc.

thank you for conforming to the status quo next week re entries, or did you have your left fingers crossed behind your back ???
Sorry, Seekeerz, my complete list was
medalLION
carbUNCLE
Belgian Endive (Belgian Shepherd Dog)
BRITANNIA silver ("... silver tassie")

Betty Skelton was my wife's grandmother. In the photo my wife is the left-most of the group, our daughter, mounted, right. So yes, side-saddles all over the place here! I for my sins typed up and corrected Mrs S's scribbled manuscript for her book "Side saddle riding".

Best wishes
Strix
p.s. We have card here, pinned up in the kitchen, which reads "If the world was a logical place, men would ride side saddle". !!
Wow, I never usually win anything!! I think you must put it down to beginners luck!
I look forward to next week.
Thanks Steff although you didn't have to wear your fingers out counting our scores.
Congratulations to joto and all the other high flyers. I'm afraid we'll never make the Mile-High Club. :-)
But we are fully paid-up members of the Free Fall Club.

Well done, joto - and Steff and sarumite too.

This post will double as a test to see if I have been restored to favour. It is so tedious being shut out in the cold with no idea what the crime may have been.

Anyhow, we'll see if this posts!
Well done...and welcome joto!...see you in the shrubbery Friday night?...(methinks another one needs doping!!!)
welcome back Aquagility.
No hard feelings one hopes.
