I have just managed to spill red berry fruit juice on my son's favourite shirt. It's splattered in several places. I've just tried some washing up liquid on one spot but nothing doing. Any suggestions welcomed.

Margo, soak the shirt in red berry juice, let it dry and say look son mum has just gone out and thought you might like this new red shirt I bought for you. He will give you a big hug and tell you what a wonderful mum you are. Marjoria Proops, Zelda Wets Mead, stand aside. retro has taken over your slot.

Just yesterday I got blood out using oxy clean. Might work on berry juice.

But I'd be inclined to soak it in whatever you have presently first, then work out if you can get anything better.
Only thing I can think of is Vanish which is pretty good at getting rid of stains.
I'd go with soaking it in Vanish for quite a while.

Thanks both I've just found some vanish oxi action at the back of a cupboard I'll give it a try. Otherwise I am in big trouble! (Not really)

Thanks also Jan - it's soaking in the sink now so fingers crossed. Thanks
Failing that Margo, it looks like you'll have to stump up for a brand new shirt ! Good luck xx

Good tidings of great joy! The stains appear to have disappeared, all hail vanish oxi action . I was going to put the rap on OH and let him take the flak 'cos that's the kind of gal I am. Thanks to Old-Geezer, Danny Jan, Mazie and Retro (for a good laugh) AB to the rescue

Jan - happiness is not having to buy a new shirt! I'd never have heard the end of it.
Buy another identical shirt Margo ! Failing that, dye the ruddy thing bright red and give him a surprise !

Thanks Mikey, nice to see you and Retro agreeing:-) funnily enough it is a red and white checked shirt! Sounds awful I know but is is actually very nice and was expensive so I am glad that all's well that end well.

Bet she wasn't as lovely and helpful as me. I even got a Best Answer. :+)
When you have washed the shirt, while is still wet, hang it so the sun rays are directly on the stain. Works every time for orange juice stains, maybe red fruit also
Oh, just seen you have succeeded . Well done

Thanks Samuraisan - I have not heard of that before. Will bear it in mind next time I make a pig's breakfast of the washing!
I discovered that trick by accident many years ago when my kids were tiny . I didn't have a dryer then. One day their baby clothes had orange stains and I hang them out to dry, and hey presto ! I have removed other stains like that. Maybe it's the UV rays or something.
yeah I was thinking on the lines of
'hey I have just dyed that awful check shirt of yours - bright pink/puce/ cranberry coloured ....

UV bleaches a lot of things and could be used to sterilise....
One surgeon in the Desert War 1942 said he just washed the instruments and put them in the sun for six hours.
