If we built a ship today big enough to carry two of every species how long deep and wide would it have to be?

So, will you be wanting to reconstruct the Ark that Noah built............or building a new one to take account of everything that escaped through the loophole last time ?
Question Author
What loophole was this jackthehat?
There was a bit of a loophole that all of the sea and water-dwelling creatures managed to exploit - they didn't need to be saved from the waters............

Ok so just land based animals and flying creatures then.
Chuckfickens you have stumble on a most excellent point! Just how much rain would we have to have to cover...lets say ~Everest at 20,035 ft?
And it would depend on the design of the ship. would it me a single or twin hulled craft for example, wide flat bottom or keeled....I think we should be told..... also the propulsion system will affect how it sits in the water... and do you have to carry food for the creatures...I do hate it when you are given such a vague brief....
Everest is much higher than 20,000 feet...
Question Author
29,035 ft I meant.
Did everyone in Noah’s ark went to heaven? Do you think?
Question Author
No I think they just sailed around till the waters finally subsided society :)
Very quick calculation.. (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong)

The volume of the earth is 8694250340343 cubic kilometres

to increase the size of the sphere to encompass Everest would make the total volume 8710618551312 cubic kilometres

Making an increase of 16368210969 cubic kilometres

divided by 40 would mean that 40409205274 cubic kilometres of rain would have to fall every 24 hrs!

that's quite a downpour!!!
Question Author
How many feet per minute would that be chuckfickens?
Question Author
Or per hour?
if you take Everest as being 29,029ft above sea level then I guess it would be 29,029 / 40 / 24 = 30.2feet of rain every hour!
Is there that much moisture on the planet then?
Harpindersing, I would hate to think you are a troll.
Of course he is..................
fraid so
Assuming I've not made a huge mistake in my figures (a distinct possibility :)) then I reckon the total amount of water on the earth would have needed to increase about 3 fold to cover the earth to the top of everest.

Makes you wonder were it all went when it was over.
I'm suspicious of a few names I see today. They all have the same pattern...
