We all know that music can affect our moods but this is mainly due to the wording followed by the music but can singular sounds or fluctuating or vibrating frequencies affect our state of mind without alcohol or drugs?

Yes certainly - certain very low frequencies can be harmful to the health.

My state of mind is constantly affected by mindless music from ipods etc., the constant Prince Philips buzzing from people on the train or walking down the street, whose earphones don't appear to fit, drives me crazy. I really dislike extraneous unnecessary noise. Rant over.

Absolutely donny, I wouldn't disagree with that - lovely smooth classical music soothes my mind, etc - Meat Loaf is good for the ironing!
I am trying to remember what word I wrote in my first post which has been censored to "Prince Philip" - I'm sure it wasn't rude.. doh!

I totally agree boxtops but music is when many frequencies or sounds are roped together, what about just singular sounds or vibrations? Ill have to leave you with that thought as I'm struggling to keep my eyes open.
well done doc, indeed it was.....
I can only think of Buddist gongs as having a soporific effect - no other single sound has an effect on me. Apart from bird-song, but that's a different sort of melody.

Ah - aeroplanes overhead - some people who live near airports get very depressed with the constant noise of takeoff and landing?

there is apparently a frequency that will make you open your bowels. It's called brown noise.
I swear I'm not making it up.
