Now don't get me wrong, I think that the probe sent to Titan is an amazing feat and I am all for exploration of our universe but the news programmes hail the main benefit of the mission as being that it may help us to understand how life began on earth.  I fail to see how understanding how life began millions of years ago this is going to benefit mankind in any way.  If you do then please let me know......

Knowing what conditions are necessary for life to begin could assist in the search for other planets capable of supporting life in the wider universe.

Also, sometimes the search for knowledge does not yeild any practical implications, merely an expansion of our understanding of the universe.
I think it's worth doing anyway, just out of curiosity. ("Because it's there").

Put it this way. If man had not bothered to sail across the seas, we would still believe that our land is the centre of all that exists.
