Can anyone recommend a website or reference that explains the basics of method of moment theory?  I am interested in applying it to the interpretation of solute transport in tracer tests, but even a simple explanation about the different moments (0th, 1st, 2nd, etc.) and how they are calculated would be helpful.  Thanks.

sound like you need fluid mechanics, v complicated
An abstract and details of the paper, "A simple integrated method for drug and derived metabolite kinetics. An application of the statistical moment theory", is at http://dmd.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/10/5/4 74.  If you can get a copy of the paper, the references quoted in the preamble might well include one with  basic instruction.  Best of luck.
