Im trying to get my head around the causes of hyper kinesia.
these are the basic steps i think happen:

1.loss of the subthalmic nucleus which leads to reduced excitation of the globus pallidus.
2.the globus pallidus usually inhibits the thalamus but this inhibition is reduced due to decreased excitation.
3.therefore thalamic output subsequently increases due to decreased inhibition form the globus pallidus.
4. this leads to hyper kinesia

(i am also assuming these are afferent fibres leading to the cerebral cortex eventually).

someone please tell me if i have this completely wrong my exams are in a couple of weeks! :S
