Pacemaker Power Source

A friends Father has very slight heart murmours of which the doctors want to insert a pacemaker. He does not want it as he is concerned with the battery having to be replaced every x number of years.
I am sure I read something a while ago that there are some pacemakers on the market which use kinetic energy motors to charge them.
Is this so? Or are they still battery operated and need replacing?

There are rechargeable pacemakers available that need no additional surgery. Some of the newer ones use the same principle as rechargeable electric toothbrushes and shavers that have no direct electrical connection with their base unit. Instead, they charge by using a magnetic induction loop system.

My cardiologist wants me to have a pacemaker and for the past 2 years ive said no!! The thought of having this little box inside you that keeps you going sounded really scary!! I had nightmares about it!! When i had a good conversation with my cardiologist who informed me about them and just how they work it doesnt sound so scary!! I may have it done afterall!!
