I doubt if there is enough room to answer your question fully here. I suggest you go to the Royal Society of Chemistry website at http://www.chemsoc.org and search for articles on spectroscopy. The RSC have fairly recently published materials on Modern Analytical Techniques which contain a lot of information about various types of spectroscopy. If you have a more specific question then please post again and I will try to answer it briefly.
