It can also be known as crystalline silica
Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), which can occure as amorphous or crystaline.
Sorry was also meant to add... There are many forms of SiO2 and thus loads of industrial names, which will come up if you google it.
Assuming that this is a crossword or quiz or something, and so ignoring the more obscure high temperature and/or high pressure polymorphs (tridymite, cristobalite and the much more interesting coesite), the answer you are probably after is a crypto-crystalline polymorph known as chalcedony.

You may occasionally see this mineral cut into sections, polished, dyed lurid colours (commonly), and sold in tacky 'Gift Shops' under its more common name, agate.
Or is it plain ordinary GLASS?
I had always known this as diatomaceous earth, though that may have been an inaccuracy.
