But...why is every surface some shade of grey? Don't get me wrong, I do like grey.
I love watching Homes Under the Hammer...some of the transformations are stunning.
I just saw one with grey flooring, grey walls etc. The kitchen was grey(pale), as was the bathroom, hall stairs carpeted in grey. I guess it's the new neutral.

better than magnolia perhaps? I guess if you are trying to sell something, you must cater to the market, and if the market likes grey, give them grey :)
On another note, I am having trouble finding dogs at rescues - is that normal for now?
Grey has been the new neutral for the last 15 years or so.

I like it. Our master bedroom is going to be grey, as is our kitchen / diner.

Otherwise I also like cream, duck egg and taupe.
pasta I prefer white on 3 walls and an accent colour on the other one, currently a light green.
Grey is ok in moderation. I tend to think it's not the buyers that necessarily set a tend, for a particular colour this time, but marketing folk and the like who decide what's "in" and pushes it. Likely interior designers and estate agents in the case of house decor. Maybe decor magazine editors too.
Nothing wrong with grey, or magnolia or cream.
But a whole house in variations of just one colour is boring and lacking in imagination.

Rooms are used for different activities, so colour is good for denoting those differences. My house is very colourful.

15 years LCG? I've always followed trends to some extent...both via tv, and magazines etc. It seems more recent. I do wonder what influences home refurbishers most when they decorate for selling. Tv? Media? Kitchen and DIY suppliers?

I love colour but I don't have much on my walls...it's mostly in ethnic rugs, cushions and other accessories. I painted my kitchen cupboards a deep teal, but I can't move furniture so most of my walls are neutral except for accent walls of duck egg and sage in 2 bedrooms.
No its defo not been grey for 15 years, i follow trends also as i sometimes upcycle and sell painted furniture so need to keep up.

I remember in the 80s when grey and pink was trending LOL!

I like to keep mostly to whites and creams, greys (HATE magnolia) with lots of bright coloured accents added.
15 years of grey as neutral colour, no don’t think so .
It has been 15 years. I saw the revolution when I was living in Spain and working as an Interior Designer.
Maybe there's " 50 shades' of it
I know this is sounds outrageous but I went from magnolia to brilliant white and I love it. My living room, hall, stairs and landing, diner and kitchen. Also bathroom is white tiles. I don't have one colourful towel again all brilliant white. It just feels all so clean

I didn't worry too much about the brilliance as the colourful furniture "dims" it down a bit.

I just love walking up my hall when I'm out for a day. Love it all

I almost envy anyone who can live with all white. I'm such an untidy person...I need colour and pattern to cover up/distract. ;)
well Pasta there is colour from the suite, cushions and curtains etc - yes I am a tidy person - but each to their own. Whatever you like for you and your own comfort.

Like I do have silvery/grey stair carpet - again I love that - pretty deep and extremely easy to keep clean.
I quite like grey and it goes with other pastel shades.
i think it's awful, but i guess you have to start somewhere, and the new tenants can always change things, i know i would - don't like grey as a colour at all.
i too often watch Homes under the Hammer and the transformations are miraculous. Though some of the properties are in a right state, how do tenants let them get like it in the first place.
Been in this rented Magnolia house just over a year.
Stairlift getting fitted in a few weeks, and may scar the wall.
OH says cover scarring with grey ???
So there you go.
why not magnolia?
I think the trick with grey as a backdrop is to layer the shades within the room, then you can accessorise with muted neutrals or bright pops of colour depending on your style and add some metal features too.
my brothers home is lovely, they have various shades of grey, pastel type, and a darker grey, black for effect, i like it - but i wouldn't do my house in grey..
