If Mercury is the nearest planet to the sun, why isn't it the hottest?

It's not the hottest?!

Possibly something to do with atmosphere.

It's all to do with Global warming, on Venus! Essentially Venus is covered with thick clouds that let heat in but not out so the planet gets hotter and hotter. Where as mercury has virtually no atmosphere and therefore any heat is quickly dissipated into space.
