anyone have any idea how many questions i have to (successfully) answer to get a 2 in this? i know that it's about four for a 1, and six for a S but no ideas about a 2.

answers would be much appreciated and hopefully reassure me a bit for tomorrow!

Try not to worry about it!  Fully answered questions, mainly correct, are graded as an alpha (at least, if things haven't changed much in recent years).  A mark of 16/20 or better would be an alpha, and the number of alphas is important rather than a total.

So ... follow the usual exam tips - read through the paper and choose a question that you feel confident on to do first.  If you get really bogged down on it, then look for a second question - you will still be going over the first one subconsciously and you will often have that flash of inspiration when you go back to it.

Avoid doing little bits of lots of questions if at all possible.

If you can, get up early and do some exercise before the exam - all that blood rushing round the brain helps your thinking!  Relax, enjoy the exam and take your time concentrating on a small number of questions.

Good luck.  Are you applying to read maths?  I hope you are successful.

brilliant, thank you! yeah, i'm not too hopefully about my chances of getting in though, since i'm really struggling with STEP, but that'd probably for the best - if i can't do this then i'd have no hope of getting through the course!
