Does decluttering your space allow "Energy" to flow or is this just a psychological thing? I though energy could travel through matter which is why i'm confused.

Of course not, but there is plenty of evidence that Feng Shui is just another way to part fools and their money.

Like this video for instance:

That’s just a psych thing. It will help on cleaning so it will save your energy of sorts LOL

ll_billym but the fact remains that people say that after their space has been feng sshui'd that they've become more productive in their work, more business has rolled in or their homes feel brighter, lighter and more friendly.
Is this because it works or is the human mind a better worker in decluttered spaces?

Lol, i suppose that would help jabuchanjx.
Of course good interior design makes people happier and quite possibly more productive but you did not ask about interior design.

You asked about Feng Shui which is a pseudoscience based on a fictional 'energy flow' that is used to rip gullible people off.

There is one more factor that comes into play in anecdotal evidence stories such as this and the basic human mechanism is called 'investment' and in this case it manifests itself such that if somebody has just spent a lump of money on having their room rearranged then they are very likely to tell others how well spent that money was and even believe it themselves.

ll_billym but what if you don't pay for it or do it yourself?
I have a Paypal account if you wish to donate to so as to have some positive vibes and luck.....

Dtcrosswordfan, that's no problem, although my bank only does bank to bank transfers so leave me your bank/account no. and pin code and i'll have a few grand sitting in your bank by lunchtime :)
There is no scientific evidence to validate feng shui, or energy flows.

What there may be is something akin to the placebo effect however - a psychological response to a rearranged, well ordered, light and airy space may very well make you feel better and more positive.
'Investment' does not always have to be money and in other manifestations it is frequently time, emotional attachment or quite often simply ego.

It shows up in many pseudosciences and other rubbish such as palm reading etc, essentially people do not like to think they got ripped off so they tell good news stories about it, or simply to go along with their crowd.
I don't feel I've ever suffered any feng shui disadvantage, by having a toilet at the top of the stairs, which leads straight onto the front door. All nono's according to the FS practitioners.
Feng shui was originally a set of guidelines devised to help people build houses sensibly and in safe places and it was presented in a rather poetic way. Since the neo-mystics and airheads who couldn't see it for what it was got hold of it, it has got a bit silly and given some people a good income. I'm not sure that many of the principles of feng shui apply to pre-stressed concrete and RSJs, but the bits about not having sharp objects sticking out in your living space apply even today, how clever the ancient Chinese were.
Boxtops, it's ok if you have a landing light so you don't fall down the stairs at night.
And if you don't want to get a crick in your neck don't set the chairs in a place where there's a draught.
Sandy, that IS a good idea, you have the makings of a book there.
Boxtops, when I said 'a landing light' I really meant 'a light on the landing', If you did fall down the stairs a landing light might be useful for when you land (at the bottom of the stairs)
I'm afraid I can't claim any credit. It was something I read in the works of Confucius many years ago.
Sandy, do you think Confucius will take out a lawsuit against you for breach of copyright?
no, but i have just had a massive sort out, chuck out and cleaning session and feel much more comfortable in my home!

the 'chi' might be real or imaginary however ...
