A man hurried down an unlit road with a torch in his hand. He tripped and dropped the torch, which went out. No damage was done and no-one was hurt, bit the incident was reported in newspapers all around the world. Why?
All events are true and answers usually require lateral thinking, but there again can be downright obscure.

girly30, yes a regular spot on Sundays.
You say all events are true. Do you have a link to this most unlikely story?
Question Author
The answer was indeed the dropping and extinguishing of the Olympic Torch. Listeners have to rely on the integrity of the broadcaster in the accuracy of his questions and answers. His question this week is; a man wrote out and signed a cheque, from his own bank account , for £1,000. There was more than this in his account at the time. However, he was later charged with fraud. Why?
He didn't sign his own name, possibly.
Could have back dated it to when there would not have been enough to pay his direct debit in his account at that time or summit like tha?t
Question Author
weecalf, I think that's the type of lateral thinking that is needed. Cheers.
