I seriously thought that the flame was being run right around the country, not put in a car/transported between running points. Am I just thick. I think the whole thing is a complete farce now!!
I agree, LoftyLottie. The flame will be run past a rural pub, of which I am a customer, but it will take about 2 minutes to pass, then be loaded into a van and taken to the next populated area in a van. It seems to be something like a comic opera.
I feel it's a real cheat. It comes to our local town from an outlying village by van. A short run through the town and then on to the next town by van. Just been looking at the local route. Why would I want to go into town to see this silly fiasco?
I have too recently found that what you say is the case. I was hoping to follow it to on my bike to our next town but what with all the security etc I dont think anything like that will be possible. I will probably just turn up to see it go through the town, which wont take long, blink and you could miss it.
blimey, how long do you want them to take? Even the most committed runner probably couldn't manage more than about 40 miles in a day surely, and we are talking about lardy "ordinary" people here. In order that as many people see it as want to, the route has to necessarily be very long and they only have 70 days!
Well Bednobs they could have honed athletes doing the long runs and the lardy folk doing the short bits ;o). Anyway the flame has already gone out on route, so it's not even the same flame or the same torch.
there are 8000 torches aren't there? i thought each person had their own. What do you mean by "same flame"? the back up flames were lit from the same place the current flame was lit from, so in essence if you want to think of the flame as a continuous entity - it is!
i quite liked someone's suggestion on here a few weeks ago that when it went on the plane, they would blow it out then relight it from someone's zippo as it landed :)
LOL Lottie. I didnt realise when I first intended to do it that it was being transported by van between towns. I thought it would be athletes like a baton passing sort of thing. I think Ive lost all interest now
(Good news - that's great. I bet you are excited and probably also a bit nervous! Bless her little heart - she is so special (as were the others of course))
