Foss (village) + 1 L (L Plate = Learner = Student)

Hun (sounds like German) + "ting" (sound of bell)
Hun = German? Blimey, don't mention the war...
11 Well done, dozyrozy and to you for explaining it,joggerjayne. I was trying to remember the German for bell! Long time since I saw Hun for German
11 - the last word I think is 'Hunting' - Hun = German; Ting = sound of a bell. Not sure what the first word is - it could be 'Trophy' - these letters are contained in the name of the town 'Pitlochry', but I can't work out from the clue the part about the 'one student'.
