Thanks mike 1111, tried Googling it with no luck.
Silly me, Marlowe was the hero of his novels, the author was Raymond Chandler.

I knew what you meant mike1111, I can find a quote by Raymond Chandler that refers to mean streets and Philip Marlowe.
