I have a pear tree in the garden, and having only been here for this season I dont know if they are edible ? Are all pears edible ? Just wondering as I know there are cherries that arent and apples that have to be cooked 1st ... I want to make pear and chillie chutney, i am unlikely to be eating them as regular fruit.

As far as I know all pears, like apples are edible, the only difference being the dessert varieties tend to be sweeter and often softer then the cooking types.

Quinces lok a bit like pears, they have to be cooked - but apart from that try one!!
