Naomi James was the first woman to sail alone around the world via the three Great Capes: Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and the Feared Cape Horn

Not sure if this included being the first woman to sail the atlantic solo.
According to this website, it was Anne Davison.

I don't know this quiz, so if the answer has to start with a 'G' I am clearly wrong.
:-((
Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz of Poland was the first woman to sail around the world solo, completing her 401-day voyage (via the Panama Canal) on April 21, 1978, less than two months before Naomi James, starting and finishing in the Canary Islands.

Thanks to you all, I should have said the surname has to start with a G and it has 6 and 7 letters. Just getting fed up of looking now. Apparently they have received at the time I read it two correct answers so she is named somewhere..
Have seen this answered before as Judith Gradwohl

I had also seen that, but on my sheet it says the surname has 7 letters in it. Did google it but couldn't find any reference to her being the first one. So just wondered if anyone had found anything else they were willing to share. But many thanks, will go with that if nothing better.
I have found a G surname of 7 letters, not 8, of a lady who is said to have crossed the Atlantic solo in 1902.
I have found it.
Gladys Gradely in 1902. I have googled and googled and found this

My sheet definitely says 6 and 7 letters.
Have just looked on the fundraising quiz site and someone has queried it and the setter has said she will accept 6&7 or 6&8 so hopefully Gladys Gradely is the correct answer. Hope so am really fed up with googling it!
grasscarp,. Sorry you gave out the answer to this one rather than a hint with four weeks still to go.
No - they are true stories

From canoes and small sailboats to a pair of strap-to-your-feet pontoons, the watercraft in these true stories make nearly as varied a collection as the mariners who piloted them. The intrepid seafarers and their feats of seamanship include:

*Ed Gillet's kite-powered transpacific kayak voyage
*Gladys Gradely's 1902 quest to become the first woman to solo the Atlantic
*Ben Lecomte's swim across an ocean for love
*Hugo Vihlen's 1968 ocean crossing in the 6-foot sailboat April Fool
*Peter Bird's tragic attempt to row across the Pacific
*And scores more

Question Author
As some of us seem to have 6 & 7 letters and some 6 & 8 letters can anyone confirm what it should be?
Minoru, Mancunian asked for help and I gave it. If asked for only a clue would have done so, but it says "even a clue". As I do not have, nor am I doing this, how was I supposed to know when it ends. Answering on here seems to be a minefield!!!!
Question Author
Well I am just grateful for the answer I've spent hours and hours on this last one.

Let us now not fall out. Again many thanks to all who responded to my question.
I saw that fact and wanted to help (though I should be doing some serious hoovering). Feel sad that I got told off by Minoru, who I thought was on the verge of suggesting same.
