A good for nothing lazy scumbag? He lives near us and went on the sick 5 years ago with a bad back and depression. Last year he told my son (with a smirk on his face) "Why should I work when I can get more on the sick". The lazy sod's been staying in Poland with mates for the last 7 months and his wife sends his sick pay to him! No doubt he'll have to come back for his annual review then go back to Poland, Would you report him? I want to but don't know who too. Thanks

the link is on the left :o)
in a word.......yes! do you know what benefits hes claiming? if so just google benefit fraud and it will take you to there site.
theres been loads of adverts in the paper and on telly how to report dole cheats, apparantly you dont give your name and is confidential.made my blood boil when i read what you said
you can do it online and you DONT have to give your name
I should add that there are some circumstances where you can claim Incapacity Benefits and live in another European country.. although it's rare and few people satisfy the criteria.

report it, and it will only be acted on if he's doing something wrong, which I suspect he probably is.
It's difficult isn't it, because what one person classes as being "more" in terms of money, another wouldn't - and what's he comparing it against? Someone who works for us was off work for 5 weeks - also with a back injury - and then they went onto more long-term benefits because of compllications. The money he received wasn't enough for him to live decently on, and we subsidised him until he was able to return to work eventually. In your case, are you just annoyed by what he said to your son, or do you think he's genuinely pulling a fast one? I believe there are benefit cheat lines which you can contact, but personally, I couldn't even think of doing that without knowing the full circumstances.
their btw

education gone amiss ?
Kia Ora all. :)

I rang the Social Welfare allegation line for a couple who are blatantly defrauding.

It is all anonymous.

I used to work for Social Welfare for years, so I know how they work. They are very discreet in squirreling away in the background collating info & if they find anything - then they'll pounce. But you're still kept out of it.

They have one hell of a lot of sources to draw from as well, so they are very thorough.

Do it.
Get in touch with your local Department for Work and Pensions office and report him. I know that there is legislation afoot to cut down on payments made for "depression" and incapacity. About time too. Shirkers.
And they end up with a criminal record, and still on benefits, because who'll employ anyone with a history of fraud?

You should still report him but don't expect to see him at work any time soon.
I would report ! On a personal note, I worked for Benefits Agency in mid 90's and did 3 months in Fraud Dpt. Your report would be received and treated with the utmost confidentiality. Without people reporting, everyone who defrauded the system would get away with it. It's YOUR taxes.
The Polish come to our country & work , we sign on & go to theres' . We're both in The European community , isn't this the very definition of freedom of movement?
Icey,

If someone made an allegation because they "think" a fraud is taking place or want to get back at someone - makes no difference.

The Social Welfare people will investigate, behind the scenes, & if they discover a fraud, they will act. If no fraud is found, they don't contact the person whom the allegation was made against, so just drop it.

Either way, the person who has had an allegation made against them will never know they were being investigated.

Until they are contacted if a fraud is discovered.

I have been trying to get you the DWP telephone number, but my connection keeps disconnecting. You should most definitely report and they will follow up regardless of whether you give your name.

I've done it! Reported at last. The person in question came to the UK in 1970. In fairness he did work as a mechanic but when he reached 50 he said he was retiring and going in the sick! He's 55 now and still on the sick plus he's living in his own house in Poland left to him by his parents. His sister cooks all his meals etc and I reckon along with others he's having a pretty goog time over there.
Well Done for reporting it!

I have a neighbour, who sees me coming in knackered after a long shift and, with a smirk, says he 'can't afford to work'. I wish I could report him too!
