Buy a domain name, they can be brought from less than 10 and get your email based on that... so your email address would be say: [email protected]

it looks far more professional than using your ISP's email address for business and costs incredibly little.

have a look here, they will sell you the domain and then host it and your email for free. they are also UK based so you can talk to people whos first language is English if you need advice.

(I have no current connections with them but I did work for them many years ago so know they are a legit company)

Cheers for that excellent answer ChuckFickens that is most likely the way I will go, but I am still curious as to how you set up another address on an existing account ....
I don't use virgin so don't know for sure, but normally it would be login to the virgin web page and there will be an email manegment option somwhere... hold on...

ok this seems to be the help page for doing that

I have 273 e-mail accounts ...................and that's just for Answerbank
Have you bothered to look on the Virgin site for help?

It is all explained here

http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/selfcare/

(I think it does differ slightly depending if you were a NTL customer or a TeleWest customer).

Basically you log on to selfcare (using your email address and the password will be the same as your email password)

Here is how to set up your email accounts.

I have a blueyonder account, and virgin gave me an acount "number" which was similar to ab012c5688.

Your 5 email accounts (aliases) will be based on your account number with another number at the end, like this

ab012c5688
ab012c5688_2
ab012c5688_3
ab012c5688_4
ab012c5689_5

Your "main" email address will be connected to the first account number in the list above.

So you can set up 4 more email address (aliases) against the other 4 accounts in the list above.

In fact your can set up THREE different aliases against each account number, so you can actualy have 15 email addresses.
One thing to think about (this may sound complicated but I am trying to help).

As I said above, your "main" email address currenty come to your main account (ac012c5688 in the list above).

If you add your "work" email address (alias) to the same account then BOTH lots of emails will arrive in the same
in-basket.

But if you create your work email on another acount (ab012c5688_2 for example) then your work emails will arrive in a different in box to your main emails.

So if you use Outlook Express for looking at your emails you would need to set up a second user within Outlook Express (pointing to the second account) to look at the work emails.

So in my case I have two email adresses in Virgin media against the first 2 accounts (the first is for family / friends the second for signing up for web sites etc).

When I start up Outlook Express I can either log on to my "main" account or my second acount.

If I log on to my "main" account I only see emails that have come to ab012c5688

If I log on to my second account I only see emails that have come to ab012c5688_2.

Hope that makes sense.

It is actually a lot harder to explain that it actually is.
btw answerbank has a section called Technology, and within that are topics Computers and Internet.

Questions like yours are probably best there as the computer nerds (like me) usually hang out there.
