This was the fifth and final week in the reign of Queen Meg [from now on aka Speedy Gonzales]. I too can confess to trying to outrun a train ~ and I am sure there will be others reading this! For this ultimate week, Queen Meg chose a familiar theme of Transport with link words:

Boat PEOPLE
Train SPOTTER
Coach HOUSE
CABLE Car

These link words caused great difficulty to most entrants ~ and presented me with a headache as to where the honours were to go!

I was pleased to see abendigo back in pole position (in terms of timing), but the first eight entrants were unlucky with their predictions and we had to wait until Entrant #9 arrived in the guise of ex-champion lysander who came in with TRAIN SPOTTER for the first award of TWO POINTS.

The very next minute brought ex-champion paulineward with the same Train Spotter together with BOAT PEOPLE to score FOUR POINTS and claim the title HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK ~ but was it just a little too late to make her mark on the master scoreboard? Anyway, due credit for a fantastic achievement.
*** Let trumpets sound and cannon roar ***
*** Let the people cheer and shout Encore ***

Nearly two hours went by without success until 10.43am when fred1941 repeated last weeks performance with a late TWO POINT hit and CABLE CAR! This is a name to watch out for in the future as someone with the magic touch! The very next entrant was eiggam who picked up a single point in this very challenging game!

With only one link to find, would you believe it? It fell once more to the super-linker and double ex-champion wickedtongue ~ the bane of all setters! His COACH HOUSE claimed the last TWO POINTS! How does he do it virtually every week? In fact, there was only one more point to award and that went to SHAZZA (once again).
Question Author
The League Table after this final week is:

TEN POINTS: Dinkypuzzled*
SEVEN POINTS: wickedtongue*
SIX POINTS: Christiana*, Grenmus*, lysander* & paulineward*
FIVE POINTS: jan1956*
FOUR POINTS: Dustybun, fred1941, kettledrum*, SHAZZA & ulysses100*
THREE POINTS: devadiva, patchett & twix123

In the Table (above), an asterisk (*) denotes an ex-champion (at least once). With the view that it is better to seek fresh blood for our next setter, I have looked at the various records and taken into account maximum weekly scores and cumulative scores and conclude that it is a close thing, but the winner by a short bread (em, I mean a short head) is Queen Dustybun.
*** Let everyone cheer ~ The true and the trusty ***
*** Long live the Queen ~ Be her buns ever dusty ***

My sincere thanks go to the retiring mystic monarch miss meg, who has served a 5-week reign with such polish and dedication! Well done indeed!

Ill close now with the usual request for anyone who has links, please help to speed up the process of contacting the new setter. Until then, this is crofter signing off.

See you next Saturday: Same time Same place New setter

Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

:o)

Farewell, Queen Meg, I did not fare well in your reign but thank you for all your words.

And welcome to Dustybun, may you have an enjoyable and fun time teasing us all with your links during February.

And god bless crofter for being ignorant of some the slang interpretations of the word buns, which I am sure in our new Queen's case are never dusty!!

Thank you Queen Meg for an interesting month, although I thought that police and ticket may have been included in your chosen link words!
Well done Dinkypuzzled and our very own 'Hot Shot' Paulineward.
Thanks crofter for all your hard work in keeping the beads of the abacus moving smoothly.
I look forward to the challenge next month with the reign of Dustybun.
Well late or early I still get no points and now to add insult to injury my best mate PW is Hot shot of the week.......will never hear the last of it!!!!!
Thanks Queen Meg for 5 interesting weeks, i did score something once!!!!!
Thanks Crofter for puzzling out the scores......and not making any rude comments!!!!!
Finally well done Dusty and I look forward to trying to guess your words. You visit the shrubbery don't you???? We must have a chat next week!!!!!!! Any clues gratefully received.
Goodnight all
Welcome to the rostrum, Dustybun (should that be Dustybuns?) Just give us a break will you? Please.

As for Pauline, did I not warn you that she is a 20c witch?

And thanks as ever, crofter. And of course thanks to Mystic Meg, who defeated me time after time after time!
